post-september malaise tuesday

thegreatratsbylong time no post! it's been a little rough out here I won't lie! but we persevere! I was assigned Public Talk at the big conference at the end of the year and I'm already shitting myself about it a bit, not to mention that I STILL HAVE NOT DONE. MY PRELIMS. explodes. other grad students will know what I mean when I say that trying to get anyone on your committee to do Anything, including just Answering An Email, is like pulling fucking teeth.

OTGW soundtrack (see 'watching' section), also the 'for Sara' tape from the show that they released as a physical object at some point, it's cute. I wish they hadn't added so much noise to make it seem 'authentic'
finished Evil as Humans. I liked it! it was charming!
still reading "On Repentance and Repair" by Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg even tho the actual holidays have passed, will probably slowly continue to book club it through the fall
read the OTGW art book
like one chapter into "Blindsight" by Greg Egan (thank you pngjpeg for the rec), I love the style so far but it's too early to tell anything else really
rewatched OTGW so that boyfriend could see it for the first time. 'tis the season, and he hadn't watched it before. I always get so emotional at the end lol. something something feeling seen as an anxious older sibling.
continuing to get better at mtg cube draft
starting playing Hades again to remind myself of the vibes, I think my brother is getting me Hades II as a birthday present :3
more disco elysium. I have officially hit the church. Egg Head is so fucking funny also
some of the best mug handles I have ever done. three wheel mugs and one kind of crooked slab built. plan is for the slab built one to be a graduation gift for a friend who is moving at the end of the month, going to paint a little saint bernard face on it :)
friend gave me some of her leftover halloween decorations! I hung one up on my bookshelf and the other was just stack of wooden cat-shaped cutouts so I painted them black and gilded one with leftover copper leaf.
my birthday is coming up! and I haven't watched Beetlejuice in years so I was like fuck it, themed movie watch party, especially because I have Mon-Tues off next week. so I spent an hour on a Tuesday making an invitation to text to people lol
finally used what was left of bf's mom's kimchi to make kimchi fried rice. stir fried some cubed spam in there instead of bacon, 10/10 meal.
made sheet pan miso chicken with radishes again, it's been a minute since this one came in rotation, but bone in skin on thighs were buy one get two free the other day and I was like. well. chicken time. gonna freeze like 8 thighs for future recipe-ing. served with the tiny type of couscous and fresh parsley.
